Understanding Wavelength
Wavelength (λ) is the spatial period of a wave — the distance over which the wave's shape repeats. It's measured as the distance between two consecutive corresponding points on the wave, such as crest to crest or trough to trough.
The fundamental relationship is: λ = c / f, where λ is wavelength, c is the wave speed, and f is the frequency. This means wavelength and frequency are inversely proportional — as one increases, the other decreases.
For electromagnetic waves in a vacuum, c equals the speed of light (approximately 3 × 10⁸ m/s). For sound waves in air, c is about 343 m/s at room temperature.
