Pet Age Calculator

Convert your dog or cat's age to human years. Our calculator uses the scientifically-backed formula that accounts for the rapid aging in a pet's first two years.

How Pets Age Differently

The old "1 dog year = 7 human years" rule is a myth. Dogs and cats age much faster in their first two years of life than humans do. After that, aging slows down but varies significantly by breed and size.

For dogs: the first year equals about 15 human years, the second year equals 24 human years, and each additional year adds about 4 human years. This formula works well for medium-sized dogs.

For cats: the progression is similar — 15 human years for the first year, 24 for the second, and 4 for each additional year. Indoor cats generally live longer than outdoor cats due to reduced risks.
