About Golf Handicaps
A golf handicap is the great equalizer in the sport, allowing golfers of all skill levels to compete on a level playing field. The handicap system, now standardized worldwide through the World Handicap System (WHS), assigns a numerical value to a golfer's playing ability. This number represents the number of strokes above par that a golfer can be expected to shoot on an average round of golf.
The WHS, implemented in 2020, unified the six different handicap systems previously used around the world into a single, consistent system. It uses your best 8 scores from your most recent 20 rounds to calculate your Handicap Index. Each score is converted to a score differential based on the difficulty of the course played, ensuring that your handicap reflects your ability regardless of which courses you play.

How to Use the Golf Handicap Calculator
To calculate your handicap index, enter your scores along with the course rating and slope rating for each round. You can input up to 20 rounds for the most accurate calculation. The course rating and slope rating can typically be found on the scorecard or your club's handicap system.
The calculator will automatically compute your score differential for each round and then determine your Handicap Index using the best 8 of 20 differentials multiplied by 0.96. If you have fewer than 20 rounds posted, the calculator uses the appropriate number of best differentials based on your scoring history.
For individual rounds, you can also calculate your Course Handicap and Playing Handicap by entering the course details. The Course Handicap converts your Handicap Index to the number of strokes you receive on a specific course, while the Playing Handicap adjusts for the format of play (such as match play or stroke play) and any handicap allowances set by the competition.
