Understanding Your Due Date
A due date is an estimate of when your baby will be born, calculated at 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of your last menstrual period. This dating method is used because most women know when their last period started, making it a reliable reference point.
Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters: the first trimester (weeks 1-12) is when major organs develop, the second trimester (weeks 13-27) is when the baby grows rapidly, and the third trimester (weeks 28-40) is when the baby prepares for birth.
Remember, only about 5% of babies arrive on their exact due date. Most babies are born within two weeks before or after the estimated date, so consider your due date as a helpful guide rather than a fixed deadline.
